Beconcini - Maurleo IGT Red Wine 2013
50% Sangiovese with 50% Malvasia Nera. Aged 12 months in French barriques. Alc. 13.5% by vol.
In the glass this 2012 Pietro Beconcini “Maurleo” is a ruby colour with moderate intensity. The alcoholic legs of this “Maurleo” are easy to spot and the alcoholic content is typical for Tuscan reds at 13.5% abv. Smooth and medium bodied, this “Maurleo” is more savoury in nature than the relatively ripe nose would suggest.
Slightly under-ripe red cherries and bruised plum flavours dominate the palate with a hint of oak spice adding nuance. Sangiovese’s typically high level of acidity drives the palate alongside supple and well integrated tannins.
Pair this Pietro Beconcini “Maurleo” with cold cuts of meats or hard cheese. 27,000 bottles produced. This wine is listed in the master wine list 2015 of the Peninsula Hotel in Hong Kong.
